There are three hammer positions on your Ruger SR1911 pistol: AT REST (fully forward), FULLY COCKED (fully rearward) and HALF-COCKED. The AT REST (fully forward) position is when the face of the hammer is resting on the firing pin. The pistol should never be carried or left AT REST on a loaded chamber.
